There are currently 5.4 million Palestine refugees registered with UNRWA in its five fields of operation (Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank and the Gaza Strip), and it is estimated that 15 per cent1 or 795,000 of them have a disability. Despite being a significant part of the registered population, there is a lot of stigma related to persons with disabilities and families often hide family members with disabilities from the community or stop them from fully participating in the community’s social activities.
