To date, the situation of women with disabilities in Europe has not been given the visibility and political importance it deserves and requires. There is still an insufficient level of awareness of the existence of the twofold source of discrimination against women with disabilities. Discrimination between women with disabilities and men with disabilities is of the same type as discrimination between women and men in general. This discrimination is based on the difference in roles traditionally assigned to women and men. Emphasis must be placed on certain types of solution such as the need for mainstreaming in education, promoting selfesteem, the need for effective vocational rehabilitation, access to childcare provision.. etc. Studies on women with disabilities should be undertaken in all fields and statistics systematically broken down by gender.
